Rubber Dam

A rubber dam is a rectangular latex sheet that fits over the entire mouth, with only the necessary tooth or area exposed.

A dental or rubber dam can give greater peace of mind and reduce anxiety about water or particles falling down into your throat or airway during a dental procedure. By removing this fear, many patients become far less anxious about the procedure and some have even fall asleep under the effects of even a local anaesthetic.

How it works

A rubber dam is a rectangular latex sheet that fits over the entire mouth, with only the necessary tooth or area exposed. The dam is kept tight and in place by rubber dam clamps or ligatures. The result is that water, fragments and other material is caught by the latex sheet instead of falling back into the mouth.

Aside from reassuring you, a rubber dam can also help the dentist by keeping the treated area free from blood and saliva.
